What it is
A domain is a unique text address for a website on the internet (e.g. lulotech.net) that a person types into a browser instead of a complex numeric IP address. A domain is registered for a set period (usually a year, renewable) through domain registrar services and belongs to whoever pays for and keeps renewing it.
What a domain is made of
- Domain name. The unique part before the dot — e.g. "lulotech" in lulotech.net.
- Top-level domain (TLD). The part after the dot — .com, .net, .ua, etc. Affects perception (e.g. .ua for a Ukrainian business) and registration price.
- Subdomain (optional). An extra part before the main domain — e.g. blog.lulotech.net for a separate section of the site.

Why you need your own domain
A website built on a builder platform often gets a long address with the platform's name in it (e.g. mysite.wixsite.com/business). Your own short domain looks more professional, is easier to remember, and is better received by search engines.
