Hosting, an SSL certificate, and basic technical support are already included in the subscription — you pay for access to the tool, not for development work.
Advantages of a builder
- Fast start. A site can be built and published in a day or two, without searching for a developer.
- Low barrier to entry. No technical knowledge required — the interface is designed for someone without development experience.
- Everything in one place. Hosting, certificate, contact form — already built into the subscription, no need to source them separately.
Limits worth knowing upfront
- Load speed. Builders ship generic code meant to cover every possible use case — the page loads slower than one written for a specific task.
- SEO limits. Less control over technical details (URL structure, speed, some meta tags on lower tiers) — harder to compete in search for commercial queries.
- Platform lock-in. Moving a site off a builder to your own hosting or another platform is practically impossible without rebuilding from scratch — the entire design and content stay "inside" the service.
- Template-based design. Even with customization, the site is still built on someone else's template — harder to create something truly unique to the brand.

When custom development is worth it
If the site needs to grow with the business (new content, new sections, a blog), and load speed and search rankings matter — custom development pays off long-term: the code is written specifically for your site, with no unnecessary bloat, and it fully belongs to you, not the platform.
